Fort Utah

Old Fort Utah Marker
Intersection of North Horne and East Lehi Road
Mesa, AZ 85203

A marker dedicated to Old Fort Utah is located in Mesa, AZ. I had the opportunity to visit the site of this fort during a recent visit to AZ. The fort was constructed in 1877 by Mormon settlers in AZ to defend against hostile Apache attacks. A visit to this marker will take you in vicinity of the Mesa Historical Society. I highly recommend stopping by the Mesa Historical Society for a couple hours to explore the rich local history of Mesa!

Below is a write on Old Fort Utah from the PhotoArizona360 blog, along with some photos I took during my recent visit:

"Old Fort Utah was the name of the original Mormon settlement spot at the eastern end of the Salt River Valley now part of Mesa, Arizona. This area of Mesa is called Lehi presently and once was a separate settlement. The first pioneers came to the site of Lehi in 1877. In addition to Old Fort Utah, the settlement was also called Jonesville after Daniel W. Jones, the leader of the pioneers."
